Founded in 1975, following an International Workers’ Solidarity Conference held in Montreal, Quebec (Canada), the Centre international de solidarité ouvrière (CISO – International Center
for Worker Solidarity) brings together more than 60 trade unions and labour federations across Quebec in a joint platform for international solidarity

MISSION AND ACTION

CISO’s mission is to develop international solidarity by strengthening ties between workers in Quebec and around the world in their struggle for labour and human rights, for better working conditions and for a just and democratic society.

Promoting and defending workers’ rights are at the core of its mission and activities, in particular the right to work, the guarantee of labour rights, the development and defence of social protections, the promotion of social dialogue, adequate wages, etc.

CISO works to develop international solidarity among Quebec’s unions and grassroots movements, helps disseminate alternative information on international issues, and supports concrete cooperation and solidarity projects with partners both in Quebec and around the world.

EDUCATION, AWARENESS-RAISINGAND TRAINING

CISO’s educational and solidarity activities seek to increase understanding of the consequences
of globalization on workers’ rights and to strengthen the ties between workers here and around the world by highlighting how our rights are interconnected. The Centre uses a number of different means to accomplish this, including the publication of news articles and informational documents, the development of educational toolkits on strategic issues and the organization of awareness-raising and training workshops as well as international solidarity tours and internships for union representatives and members.

NTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY

CISO maintains strong links of solidarity with its international partners to collaboratively
defend workers’ rights. This international solidarity also contributes to fostering social change in Quebec by introducing new ways of mobilizing and operating, and by creating reciprocal relationships. The Centre supports the struggles of both communities and partner organizations through observation missions, local and international cooperation projects, information-sharing, advocacy, and mobilization.

BECOME A MEMBER OF CISO

You can directly support CISO’s efforts to defend workers’ rights by becoming a member.
In a context of neoliberal globalization, solidarity is more important than ever!

Membership contributions from both labour organizations and individuals are the Center’s
primary source of funding. They are also its only source of independent funding, allowing it to carry out its mission without restrictions.
